As a young girl, I have vivid memories of playing in the Tupperware cupboard and hand-rolling meatballs with my mom. From those earliest kitchen capers, the “heart of the home” is the place I feel comfort, curiosity and joy.

Lauren Warnecke is a writer and editor focused on Chicago dance and cultural criticism across the Midwest. Lauren is a freelance dance critic for the Chicago Tribune, editor of See Chicago Dance, and the founder of Art Intercepts (est. 2009). Additional bylines include Chicago Magazine, Milwaukee Magazine and Dance Media publications, among others. Lauren was a writer-in-residence at the Bates Dance Festival (Lewiston, ME) and the JOMBA! Contemporary Dance Experience (Durban, South Africa), and was part of the first low-res dance writing lab cohort at the National Center for Choreography in Akron, OH. Holding degrees in dance and kinesiology, she is an instructor of dance and exercise science at Loyola University Chicago.
